Everything your clients need to know about the K2 Base Camp Trek in Pakistan. Difficulty, cost, best season, permits, and what to expect on the Baltoro Glacier.

The K2 Base Camp Trek is considered one of the greatest treks in the world. At 5,150 metres above sea level, reaching the base of the world's second highest mountain is a life-changing achievement for any adventurous traveller.

Why K2 Base Camp is Different from Everest Base Camp

While Everest Base Camp gets hundreds of thousands of visitors per year, K2 Base Camp sees only a few thousand trekkers annually. This means:

  • **True wilderness experience** — no crowded tea houses
  • **Raw, unspoiled landscapes** — the Baltoro Glacier is awe-inspiring
  • **More challenging and rewarding** — a genuine achievement
  • **Less commercialised** — authentic Pakistan mountain culture

  • Trek Overview

**Start point:** Askole village, Skardu District

    **Trek distance:** ~160km round trip

    **Duration:** 16–21 days

**Maximum altitude:** 5,150m (K2 Base Camp)

**Difficulty:** Challenging (prior trekking experience required)

    Day-by-Day Itinerary

**Day 1–2:** Islamabad → Fly to Skardu → Gear check and briefing

**Day 3–4:** Jeep to Askole → Trek begins → Camp at Jhola / Paju

    **Day 5–7:** Baltoro Glacier → Urdukas → Gore II → Concordia (4,600m)

    **Day 8:** K2 Base Camp (5,150m) — the moment of a lifetime

**Day 9–12:** Optional Gondogoro La crossing (5,940m) or return via Baltoro

**Day 13–18:** Return trek → Skardu → Islamabad

    Best Season: June to August

The trekking window for K2 Base Camp is narrow:

  • **June:** Snow still present, fewer trekkers, dramatic scenery
  • **July:** Peak season, stable weather, best conditions
  • **August:** Still excellent, slight chance of late-season storms

  • Avoid May (too much snow) and September (increasing storm risk).

    Permits Required

    All trekkers need:

    1. **No Objection Certificate (NOC)** — from Ministry of Interior

    2. **Trekking Permit** — from Pakistan Alpine Club

    3. **National Park Entry Fee** — Central Karakoram National Park

TravelBridge Pakistan handles all permits for our partner agencies' clients. This is included in our K2 Base Camp package.
